Always do your best to keep your livestock out of the mud. This is especially critical when they are drinking clean water. Nothing worse than cows standing up to their belly in mud trying to get a drink of water.

Cattle do quite well feeding themselves even in the winter. There is no other process that lowers your wintering costs more than when cows are allowed to harvest the grass on the pasture where it was grown.
