Learn From Our Successes and Mistakes
We went from near bankruptcy in 1999 to paying off our farm and house in three years by focusing on grazing on leased land. Today we own 5 farms and lease 14 more for a total of 1,900 acres. If you’d like to learn more about how we did this, consider scheduling a private farm tour with me, Greg. I’ll explain in detail our successes and the mistakes we made over the years. I’ll also cover all the steps for setting up a profitable grazing operation from scratch using very few inputs. Here’s what we’ll talk about on your tour as we visit our cattle herd, our flock of hair sheep and their guardian dogs. • Mob grazing techniques • Low cost fencing systems • Low maintenance water distribution • Grass genetics, tips to developing your own herd • Parasite resistant hair sheep management •
Seedstock Sales • Silvopasture establishment techniques • Leasing land basics • Grazing rotations through the four seasons • Building healthy soil with livestock grazing techniques • Winter stockpiling tips • Monitoring animal performance • Shitake mushroom cultivation • Farm product marketing.
