BEGINNING GRAZING SCHOOL
MAY 10TH & 11TH, 2024
WITH GREG JUDY AND ABRAM BOWERMAN

Location: Devils Washboard Road, Clark, Mo. 65243, Look for the huge white circus tent on the east side of the road!

Greg and Abram will be teaching a beginning 2-day grazing school. Abram is a full-time sheep producer in Northwest Missouri who is highly skilled in developing a low-cost sheep flock that can work in your environment. The school will cover both sheep and cattle production for folks just getting started in ruminants.

Abram being a full-time sheep producer, he realized quickly that he could not spend money on his sheep flock if he was going to make a living. Abram believes that with good management and rigid culling practices, sheep will make a living for you.

Greg will be teaching basic fundamentals of setting up a profitable grazing operation with cattle and sheep from ground zero. Do not jump in and spend a bunch of wasted money on farm inputs. This class will save you thousands of dollars in wasted purchases that you do not need to make. There will be pasture walks each day where attendees get to see everything in action and up close.

Cost is $600 per seat. $200 deposit per person reserves a seat for school, remaining balance is due by April 1st, 2024. A fee of $50 will apply for cancellations.

Do it right the first time! Invest in yourself in the beginning and avoid costly mistakes with your livestock and land.

We have decades of experience growing new topsoil and our soil life is off the charts. Our ground water is healthy, springs are starting to flow, and wildlife are flourishing. We’ve also increased livestock numbers and they grow fat on nothing but grass.

Let’s bring Profit back to the ranch!
Let us show you the steps we took to be successful. We’ll be covering all the critically important steps in implementing planned grazing and we’ll share the mistakes we’ve made along the way, so you don’t have to repeat them. Here’s what we’ve got planned:
How to Work with Livestock to Heal Your Land and Build Your Soils
Learn the management techniques to stop giving your hard-earned money to the input folks. Each day there will be detailed pasture walks around Green Pastures Farm detailing the techniques used to run a profitable grazing operation.
Fencing and Pasture Set Up and Water Development
Greg will be sharing his decades of experience with a variety of fencing products and talk about how to minimize time and effort moving fences. You’ll also learn about water development and how to make sure livestock have the water they need.
Winter Stockpiling Techniques
We will go over our management practices on how to grow winter stockpile to reduce costly winter hay feeding. Pasture walks will include walking in winter stockpiled paddocks.
Cattle Management and Grass Genetics
You’ll see first-hand the kind of herd you can build by paying attention to which animals work best for your operation and getting rid of those animals that don’t. Greg will also talk about their parasite and disease management practices.
How to Build Your Operation on Leased Land
You don’t have to buy land or inherit it from your family to be a farmer or rancher. Greg will show you how to find land to lease, how to work with landowners to set up win-win contracts, and show you examples of what he’s done to build his own operation.
Silvopasture Practices to Create More Forage and Saleable Products
Pasture walks will include time talking about how Green Pastures Farm has expanded its operation by carefully removing some trees to create pastures and saleable lumber.
Ideas to Diversify Your Operation
Green Pastures Farm raises sheep and cattle for the grassfed meat business, while selling only the best animals for seedstock starter herds. Other items covered are lumber, mushrooms, and an Air BnB house. Greg will talk about how each of these enterprises fits into their overall operation and the marketing that makes them work.
