It is hard to beat a well constructed farm pond for livestock water. Once you catch the rain water it is free to use for supplying quality water to your animals. Make sure it is built correctly and it will last for 100 years plus!
Always do your best to keep your livestock out of the mud. This is especially critical when they are drinking clean water. Nothing worse than cows standing up to their belly in mud trying to get a drink of water.
When selecting pond sites be careful not to build ponds that cover up a bunch of grass. Once your precious land is covered with water, your livestock will never graze that area again. Just remember, livestock do not need ponds big enough to ski on, just provide clean abundant high quality water.
